La madrileña Esther Rosa, tiene su hogar en Nueva York desde hace cinco años. Una ciudad, en la que descubrió su faceta de pintora, y en la que tras estudiar en la National Academy School of Fine Arts de Manhattan, desarrolla su trabajo.
Esta es su visión personal de Nueva York. Desde aquí vuelvo a agradecerle su colaboración para responder esta entrevista.
Eres un buen ejemplo de persona que se reinventa, dejando atrás una carrera profesional para dedicarte al mundo del arte, cómo pintora. ¿De qué forma el hecho de vivir en Nueva York influyó a la hora de tomar esta decisión?
Esta ciudad te ofrece todo en cualquier campo, en concreto en el mundo del arte tienes al alcance de tu mano Museos, galerías, escuelas y Universidades donde poder prepararte y donde poder estar al tanto de todo. Del mismo modo es punto de encuentro de varias de las ferias de arte mas prestigiosas del mundo como,The Armory Show, Scope… Estas ferias de arte son un excelente lugar para estar al tanto de lo ultimo. En un corto periodo de tiempo puedes ver una amplia selección de trabajos generalmente de alta calidad, artistas y obras escrupulosamente seleccionadas para ser expuestas en estas ferias.
Has realizado una exposición conjunta en el Centro Español de Manhattan, con otras dos artistas españolas que trabajan en Nueva York. ¿Qué ofrece esta ciudad a un artista, que no pueda encontrar en otros lugares?
Nueva York ofrece una gran diversidad en arte contemporáneo en cuanto a estilos, medios utilizados y sobre todo una gran diversidad de artistas con diferentes backgrounds. Yo diría que ofrece una maravillosa selección de trabajos que te estimulan y te provocan a la vez. Multitud de inputs que, conscientemente o inconscientemente, están alimentando tu proceso creativo.
¿Cuáles son tus fuentes de inspiración a la hora de desarrollar tu trabajo?
Hay muchas fuentes de inspiración a la hora de crear, ideas, sentimientos, el entorno que impacta conscientemente o inconscientemente activa el proceso creativo, es un momento único, ¡retador!. Y envolviendo todo esto muchas, muchas horas de trabajo, así es como da a luz el proceso creativo!.
Acabas de exponer en Affordable Art Fair, una feria bianual de Arte que reune a galerías de todo el mundo. ¿Crees que los artistas emergentes tienen en Nueva York más posibilidades de difundir su obra que en España?
En Nueva York hay mucha competencia pero del mismo modo hay muchas oportunidades, hay muchas galerías que solo trabajan con artistas emergentes. El Affordable Art Fair es también un buen ejemplo de ello, arte a precios accesibles de artistas emergentes.
¿Cuáles son tus próximos proyectos? ¿Cuándo veremos tu obra expuesta en España?
Actualmente estoy preparando una exposición para el próximo año aquí en Nueva York, será a finales de la primavera. En España de momento nada a la vista aunque me encantaría!, ¡todo se andará!
Después de varios años viendo en Nueva York con tu marido e hijos, ¿que sigues echando de menos de Madrid?
Mi familia y amigos, ¡siempre!
¿Cúal es tu rincón especial de Nueva York, aquél en el que te sientes más cómoda?
Sin duda Central Park, te pierdes en él y pierdes la noción del tiempo y de que estas en una gran ciudad. El momentazo, ir al parque con una manta y disfrutar de un concierto al aire libre o, un picnic con la familia y porque no, cuando el tiempo lo permite, tumbarse a tomar el sol!
Finalmente, me gustaría que nos dijeras cuál es tu restaurante favorito de Nueva York.
Me fascina el sushi y en general la comida japonesa, Sushi of Gary, Sushi Seki, Morimoto, Sushi Yasuda, Kuruma Zushi y el top Masa!!!. I love them all!!

The Spaniard Esther Rosa, has its home in New York for five years. A city, where she discovered her facet as a painter, and in which, after studying at the National Academy School of Fine Arts in Manhattan, carries out its work.
This is your personal view of New York. From here I thank you for your cooperation in answering this interview.You are a good example of someone who reinvents itself, leaving behind a career to devote to the art world, as a painter. How does the fact of living in New York influenced in making this decision?
This city offers all in any field, particularly in the art world you have at your fingertips Museums, galleries, schools and universities where you can prepare and where to stay on top of everything. Just as the meeting point of several of the most prestigious art fairs in the world as The Armory Show, Scope ... These art fairs are a great place to stay abreast of the latest. In a short period of time you can see a wide selection of work generally of high quality, carefully selected artists and works to be exhibited at these fairs.
You have made a joint exhibition at the Spanish Center of Manhattan, with two other Spanish artists working in New York. What this city offers an artist, you can not find elsewhere? New York offers a great diversity of contemporary art in terms of styles, media used and above all a great diversity of artists with different backgrounds. I would say it offers a wonderful selection of works that they will stimulate and provoke you at once. Multitude of inputs that, consciously or unconsciously, are fueling your creative process.
What are your sources of inspiration when developing your work? There are many sources of inspiration in creating, ideas, feelings, impacting the environment consciously or unconsciously activates the creative process is a unique, challenging!. And wrapping all this many, many hours of work, this is how it gives birth to the creative process!. Just exhibit at Affordable Art Fair, a biannual fair that brings together art galleries from around the world.
Do you think emerging artists in New York are more likely to disseminate their work in Spain? In New York there is much competition but equally there are many opportunities, there are many galleries that only work with emerging artists. The Affordable Art Fair is also a good example of this, affordable art by emerging artists.
What are your next projects? When will we see your work exhibited in Spain? I am currently preparing an exhibition for next year here in New York, will be in late spring. In Spain for the moment nothing in sight but I love it!, Everything will come!
After several years in New York watching your husband and children, how you keep longing for Madrid? My family and friends forever!
What is your favorite place in New York, one in which you feel most comfortable? Undoubtedly Central Park, you can get lost in it, is unbelievable you loose the sense you are in a big city! . The best moment, go to the park with a blanket and enjoy an outdoor concert or a picnic with family and why not, when time permits, lying in the sun! Finally, I wish you would tell us what your favorite restaurant in New York. I love sushi and Japanese food in general, Sushi of Gary, Sushi Seki, Morimoto, Sushi Yasuda, Kuruma Zushi and the top Masa!. I love them all!!
