ESTHER ROSA AT THE NATIONAL ACADEMY MUSEUM, NY.

Last Friday, May 10th, the historic Huntington Mansion on 5th Avenue, presently the home of the National Academy Museum, was transformed by an exciting and eclectic display of work from international and national artists of all mediums via its CREATIVE MISCHIEF exhibition. Over 1,000 people visited it!.

For this special occasion, I showed a large scale installation entitled BREATHING UNDERWATER which measures 21 ft x 11 ft and is comprised of over 7,000 coffee filters that have been gently dyed with coffee and arranged to resemble a surreal, dreamlike landscape.  I want to enchant the viewer and lead him/her into a soothing, peaceful realm, embraced by nature, much like the calm ebb and flow of the waves as they approach the sandy beach.  By leading the viewer into this tranquil landscape, I hope to provide him/her with a soothing experience from which to get the energy to keep breathing and transcend life as we know it.
